in the wee small hours of the morning while everyone was fast asleep, i found myself still in the kitchen baking cheese & walnut bread for 2nd attempt. They were a lot better than previous one and became our breakfast that morning.
onion & tuna quiche, it was my first time learning to make quiche, 6 quiches in total and 3 of us finished all within 24 hours.
3rd time i bake cafe au lait bread with lots of chocolate chips and topped with almond nut. This time i am obviously improving, the texture is fluffier and softer than previous one.
last night after putting my girl to sleep, i realised we had nothing for breakfast, so i made cheese sticks instead. Not bad too, but i dont quite like it.
Just came back from lunch with 30 kindy moms at a chinese restaurant nearby. Food was not bad, each of us only paid 1000yen(about RM30) and we got to eat chili prawns, 1 char-siew-pau, friend fried rice, 1 siew-mai, soup and dessert.
again we did little self-intro telling where we live, then just sit and eat and talk something surface, mostly about kindergarten. actually very tiring and boring for me, but i really tried best to blend in, although i am the only foreign mom among all, i don’t want to make feel like or treated like an outsider. Honestly, it is tiring but i think i am doing fine so far with a lot of smile, being humble, easy going, polite…
some people may not immediately get close to foreigner like me, but never mind, i dont rush, time will prove and i believe 随縁。
almost time for me to go pick up my girl, glad that i write it down about my feeling today. Yes, I survived, from lunch meeting with 30 mothers who hardly remember their names. there will be more mother meeting in near future but i hope not too often
Summer holidays is coming soon and i have been thinking what to do with Yoyo during this long break at home. anyway, i printed out some nomenclature cards the other day and went thru with her once, it was quite a good play which made her do a little thinking when sorting out the cards, also helps her to recognise the words. This post will be my reference when i am running out of idea for activities. if you have any activities idea pls share with me yah!
To be a able to bake has always been my dream, thanks to my friend Atsuko who introduced me to a baking trial lesson two weeks ago. We learned to bake Chocolate chip coffee bread in my first ever baking lesson, and it was really nice, of course lah we got guru to guide us mah.
at home i baked it again but it was little too hard, barely eatable.
hubby prefer nutty bread, so i took on a new challenge, baked cheese and walnut bread for the first time. It turned out not bad, still barely eatable.
i baked again last Sunday night, this time totally uneatable, and went to bin straight away. It is not easy to bake, 加油吧!
rice cooked with salmon & shimeji mushroom / sweet omlette / pumpkin in milk / konnyaku & chikuwa fish-paste sauted with sesame seeds / brocolli / grapes
rice topped with small dried fish & sesame seeds / french beans / sweet omlette / nikujyaga(beef & vegetable stew) / kiwi / dried prune.
As you might have already noticed that i am not a “kyaraben”(character bento) mama, i don’t make kyaraben, and i haven’t learnt to appreciate kyaraben art either, must be very tiring to think of what character for bento every morning, no?!
As for me, i usually try my best to put 5 different colors of food in bento,i.e. white, black, green, yellow and red and make sure she eats veggie and fruits. Almost every time i put a cut of sweet omelette in Yo’s bento box, because she asks for it everyday. For more calcium intake, i like to add some little dried fish or sakura shrimps. This is how i make my daughter’s bento.
We have been painting a little on weekends when hubby is away for his Mandarin class. Yoyo enjoys playing with colors, but very often she likes to use a lot of black paint, sometimes i remind her of other colors like green, yellow and blue, so i gave her a cut-out rainbow and gingerbread man, and she finally painted them colorfully. I like her gingerbread man the most, it is up on the wall now.
then, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce her to calligraphy art, since japanese and chinese share this unique art culture. Well, i know it’s still dificult for her at this age, so she just watched me paint, then later she painted with her hand. 很久很久没有拿毛笔,手也硬了,写出来的字也好硬,没有感情,真的是需要多多练习,好怀念中学时代写大小楷的日子呀!
Our little green chair needed a new look, so i made it a cover. It still looks green, but this time added with red mushrooms and flowers pattern, and a big ribbon at the back of the chair. I simply adore green
rice topped with sweet black beans / sweet & sour meatball stuffed with sesame seeds & corn / french bean dressed in black sesame sauce / Konnyaku kinpira / kiwi.
rice with sesame seeds & dried small fish / sweet omelette /stir-fried prawns with ketchup base sauce / komatsuna green / grapes / dried prune.
A mini sport day was held last Sun in Yo’s kindy, it was a cloudy morning, not too hot not too cold, just right. There were already a lot of parents by the time we arrived, and Sunday made it a good chance for working fathers to visit kindy.
Yoyo refused to dance so teacher let her sit, but she did play with daddy in an event at least.
since father’s day was just around the corner, many games designed especially for fathers, and kids like it and was a good laugh to see their fathers in the race.
I came across a great song for us, Malaysian, in TSP’s blog. The song “Here in my home” is a project of Malaysian Artistes for Unity with a budget of zero. Beside it English composition, also has a multi-lingual short rap parts sung in Malay, Mandarin and Tamil.
